Artisanal Chickens Availability

(This is our front yard- can you believe how beautiful it is?)

Our adult chickens spend their day foraging in the field, enjoying sunlight and fresh air, as well as scratching, dust bathing and playing a chicken version of  keep away every time they find a tasty morsel.

We order our day old Amish Ranger chicks from a breeder located on an old-fashioned Mennonite Farm in Pennsylvania.

These chickens have been bred to maintain their natural “chicken-ness” unlike tasteless commercially available birds you may be used to eating. We then raise our chickens using time-honored natural practices until they slowly reach market size.

Amish ranger chickens have a darker meat with a very flavorful taste. They make a remarkable broth so don’t throw the bones or carcasses away!

We also have free range Cornish Chickens for those of you who prefer a white meat chicken like you may be used to eating. The difference between these chickens and the ones you buy at the market is how they are raised and fed. The chicken most people are used to eating is full of hormones and chemicals- and they have lived a very stressful life! No wonder those other chickens taste like rubber.

We sell naturally raised farm chickens that taste like chicken is meant to taste like!
Never any chemicals, hormones or unnecessary antibiotics.

Our chickens are raised on healthy food grown here on the ranch, supplemented by premium organic feed & pristine well water.

It does cost more to raise and then sell these birds, but once you taste these chickens we think you will agree that they are really worth it!

Fresh (not frozen) wrapped chickens are available for sale with advance notice as we raise and sell only fresh fryers and broilers in small batches to maintain the highest possible quality. Go ahead and call us for availability though as we try to have extra on hand.

Frozen chickens can be purchased as well and we will wrap them with ice so they should stay that way until you get home.

Tip: Try to remember to bring a cooler along to help keep the chicken cold.

Free Range Cornish Chickens

(Note: Chickens are available starting around late March until November- healthy free range chickens do best during warmer months. These birds are packaged in vacuum sealed bags so they freeze beautifully!)

Wonderful, light colored meat with a deep flavor that can only come from good living on the ranch.

We process these chickens as fryers when they are very young (great for sauteing, bbq, fried chicken, etc. and then later
as roasters- large birds that offer plenty of good meat. These are best slowly baked in a large pan with a tight fitting lid (a dutch
oven is perfect). A crock pot is an ideal way to prepare them or try my favorite- fill a large pot with water, throw in lots of herbs,
onions, maybe a lemon or an orange and simmer the chicken whole. The results are amazing!

Whole (Or halved) Packaged Chickens    $6.49 lb*
Premium Cut Chickens (Chickens cut into serving sized pieces)    $6.99 lb*

(*Unlike our local competitors, we do not require you to pay a large deposit or join a CSA. We also do not require you to volunteer your time to help us make a profit, nor force you to pick up your chicken only on a certain day. And most importantly we do not leave the head and feet attached and stuff the chicken cavity so that you pay premium prices for stuff you would not use in a million years.)

Farm Fresh, Naturally Raised Chicken Eggs $8.00/dozen

Premium eggs raised without using chemicals or antibiotics. We hand feed these chickens a diet that includes lots of organic fresh fruits and vegetables as well as organic carrot juice & fresh whole flax seeds to make sure the eggs are rich in beta carotene and Omega 3s. And if that wasn’t enough, we sprout fresh organic grains for them during the cold months to make sure that they have the best nutrition possible!
